When I use that same Es File Explorer on the phone though, it indicates that SMB 2.0 is necessary for the connection and asks to install the paid version of the app (I highly doubt it would work thereafter as no other app with SMBv2-v3 options work on the phone as indicated below). I think all the settings are in order… Sharing with guests is allowed in “User/ Groups” under the System Preferences File Sharing over SMB is on, etc… Plus, VLC can browse through the shared folders/ play audio/ video there on the computer fine… Furthermore, perhaps more strangely, the issue appears to be specific to the Android phone: On a Kindle Fire device, Es File Explorer can access the shared files on the computer as guest. I’ve been encountering an issue recently when trying to connect, over SMB, from an Android (11) phone to the shared files on a Mac computer (running Catalina 10.15.7) as a “Guest” user.Īccessing all the files on the computer by submitting the username/ password for the computer is no issue: That works fine (yet, that is not what I’m trying to do).
